For nearly three years I tried to explain to the pixies just why we were living in Oxford. “What’s a doc-trate?” they’d ask. To which I’d respond, well, I’d really just scratch my head, laugh, and walk away. Today Lyric hurricaned into the house exclaiming, “Daddy, Your thesis arrived from London.” It contains 382 reasons (pages) why we lived in Oxford. But more than a study on beauty in the works of Lewis, this blue brick symbolises the wild love of my wife, the fearlessness of my pixies, and the loving words of so many of you. The journey is not over yet. Next week, I fly over to defend it. It will be scrutinised and critiqued by my examiners. And I welcome it. For if beauty has taught me anything, it is patience … to hear, to see, to grow. #thesis
